Skyeview

Skyeview represents the most ambitious project in Joel Contreras's portfolio, a complete reimagining of an existing structure that had fallen into severe disrepair. The bones were mid-century; the potential was extraordinary.
The project began with a question about identity: should this become a restoration, an adaptation, or something entirely new? After extensive analysis, the decision was made to push forward, a total transformation that would use the existing structure only as a starting point.
What emerged is one of the most dramatic before-and-after transformations in the Phoenix residential scene.
The new design draws on the proportions and desert-adapted logic of mid-century modernism, but expressed through a thoroughly contemporary material palette. Black-painted steel, burnished concrete, and warm timber create a layered composition that feels rooted in place.
The relationship between inside and outside is the defining move. Floor-to-ceiling glazing on the western elevation opens the living spaces to a sweeping desert view, the 'Skyeview' that gives the project its name.
